Lakeland Historic Home and Garden Tour on Saturday March 17

Lake Morton Bed & Breakfast proudly announces that we will be one of the homes featured in the Lake Morton Neighborhood Association's 9th annual Historic Home and Garden Tour on Saturday, March 17th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please make plans to join us for a great day of sightseeing!

This self-guided walking or trolley tour is open to the public and will feature about 12 homes and gardens in the South and East Lake Morton historic district. Because several homes have porches with stairs, not all tour locations are handicap-accessible.

The tour will begin at 11 am and is accessible by foot or trolley. It will showcase examples of several different architectural styles such as the Federal Colonial Revival style, the English Arts and Crafts Tudor style, the Mediterranean Revival Style, and several Craftsman bungalows. Homeowners and greeters will be on hand at the tour homes to welcome participants and answer questions.

Visitors will begin at the Polk Museum of Art (800 East Palmetto Street, Lakeland) where they can purchase tour tickets for $15.00 (cash or check at all locations, please). Ticket holders will also enjoy the opportunity to view the museum exhibits free of charge the day of the tour. Open air trolleys will shuttle tour guests to the twelve homes and gardens as well as a historic sanctuary.

This event is made possible through the generosity of LMNA’s tour sponsors. The Lake Morton B & B especially wants to thank the Red Door Wine Market for their generous sponsorship of our location. The Red Door (863-937-9314) is conveniently located just 2 blocks from us at 850 South Tennessee Ave.

LMNA also wishes to thank the gracious tour homeowners, LMNA’s supportive membership and the many volunteers who make this such an enjoyable Lakeland event.

Florida Southern College named one of America's Most Beautiful Colleges

Congratulations to Florida Southern College for making Travel and Leisure magazine's list of America's Most Beautiful Campuses. Florida Southern is located in Lakeland, just a 10 minute walk from the Lake Morton Bed and Breakfast. I copied the ino on Florida Southern below along with a link to the article.

Florida Southern University: Lakeland, FL

What do Ellis Island and Florida Southern University have in common? They’re among the 32 U.S. spots that have recently been put under watch by the World Monument Fund as endangered cultural sites. You might also be surprised to learn that Florida Southern—on a hillside overlooking Lake Hollingsworth—has the world’s largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings, including the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel with its colored pieces of glass and wrought-iron tower. —Ratha Tep

New Frank Lloyd Wright Designed Home Being Built in Central Florida

A design by acclaimed architect Frank Lloyd Wright is being built on the campus of Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. The college hosts the largest collection of Frank Llyod Wright buildings in the world.

One of his unused designs from the 1950s is being used now to build the Sharp Family Tourism and Education Center scheduled for completion in March 2012. The Lake Morton Bed and Breakfast is located only three blocks from the college. Architecture enthusiasts are welcome to stay in one of four spacious suites when visiting the area.

How to Plan a Romantic Getaway

I saw the following article on MerchantCircle and thought it had some good advice. The Lake Morton Bed and Breakfast welcomes couples who are looking for a romantic escape in Lakeland, Florida. Please visit our website for availability.

How to Plan a Romantic Getaway
By Dancesonwords2

Think outside the box and learn how to plan a romantic getaway. Pick a location that will have activities your lover would enjoy. Plan your vacation around your partner's desires. Learn as much as you can about the location and plan ahead. Plan your romantic interludes. Pick a romantic spot to spend your nights. Let your romantic inspirations free.

1.Think about your beloved’s likes and tastes. The secret to pulling of a truly romantic getaway is to show your loved one that you care about their desires. It may mean going somewhere or doing something that you ordinarily would not be interested in. You might be surprised in your partner’s reaction.
2.Pick some locations that will have your lover’s interests. Ideally there should be something of interest to you as well. List the pros and cons of the locations based on what activities they offer or cost factors.
3.Narrow down your list and pick a location. Get as much information about the place as you can. Send for brochures. To keep the event a secret, have them sent to a friend’s home.
4.Research about the area. Take special note of any interesting places that would also be romantic. You can do online virtual tours on some travel websites.
5.Plan a theme or mood. Try to make the trip fun for your loved one. Inject some times for romantic interludes. If your lover likes water sports or boating, plan a romantic picnic or a walk along a pier or beach.
6.Choose a romantic location to spend your nights. This is where you can get the romance part in. Think out of the box and pick a place where you can have that romantic mood and environment. Bed and breakfasts may be the perfect choice. These places often cater to a guest’s special requests.

Myths and Facts about Bed and Breakfasts

Lake Morton Bed and Breakfast is proud to be listed on BedandBreakfast.com, the most comprehensive global site for finding bed and breakfast properties, with more than 11,000 properties worldwide.

Here's a good article from their website.

Myths and Facts about B&Bs

B&Bs lack privacy.
While meeting the many wonderful innkeepers and inngoers are a big reason travelers choose B&Bs, most are also more than accommodating when it comes to guest privacy. With almost all B&Bs offering rooms with private bathrooms and many providing flexible dining hours and private or semi-private dining options, staying in a B&B provides an exceptional experience for guests seeking a relaxing weekend getaway. Guests respect one another’s privacy and innkeepers work hard to provide gracious hospitality and give you as much privacy as you need. Many B&Bs have private entrances, separate cottages or carriage houses, for those want an option to the main house.

B&B means sharing a bathroom with others.
Back in the day, B&Bs were practically defined as places where you could rent out a room quite affordably with shared bathroom facilities. However, today’s modern B&B industry has evolved to where nearly all B&Bs, inns, and boutique hotels offer rooms with private bathrooms. In fact, according to the Professional Association of Innkeepers International, more than 97 percent of B&Bs offer private baths in some, if not all rooms. For those looking to economize on rates, a shared bath option is available in approximately 12 percent of B&Bs.

B&Bs are expensive and don’t offer hotel-like services.
Room rates for B&Bs vary widely, depending upon location, the property itself, and its amenities. B&Bs, however, are attractive to many travelers because of the great value for your dollar including such as free breakfast and other amenities, usually at no extra charge, like refreshments, Internet, onsite parking, afternoon teas, wine and cheese hours, and more. Many B&Bs also offer free Internet, flexible check-in, private pools, spas and spa services, bars, private balconies, luxury soaps/shampoos, high thread count linens, and much more, providing 5-star accommodations and service. Travelers are guaranteed to get these and other amenities at BedandBreakfast.com™ Diamond Collection™ properties, which are professionally inspected and maintain top consumer reviews.

Finally, B&Bs offer a level of personal customer service often unmatched by many other lodging alternatives. Innkeepers serve as not only managers, but as “personal concierges,” offering tips on restaurants, nearby attractions, and info only locals would know.

B&Bs are mostly older inns in rural areas.
Hardly! Many B&Bs are beautiful Victorian homes and/or listed on the National Register of Historic Places (many impeccably restored) – providing unmatched charm and elegance.

At the same time, however, there are über-modern inns located in large cities. You can find everything at BedandBreakfast.com – from beachside B&B cottages and quaint mountaintop inns to boutique B&Bs in the wine country and rustic ranch lodges. Many offer spas, restaurants, and other services suited for the local area, such as hiking, horseback riding, or skiing. What you can count on is that B&Bs offer undiscovered and surprising experiences for the perfect getaway.
